Immortelle is an evergreen shrub with yellow flowers that have no petals. A defining scent of the Mediterranean, it grows across wild scrubland where it thrives amid rocks and sun-baked soil.
With its herbaceous, grassy and liquorice notes, our Immortelle Absolute is made through solvent extraction of the dried flowers, hand-picked from the dunes of Andalusia during the months of June and July.
Its botanical name, helichrysum, reflects the observation of its appearance by the Ancient Greeks: ἥλιος (“sun”) and χρυσός (“gold”), whilst the French immortelle means immortal or everlasting. In Ancient Greece, its flowers were woven into crowns for statues of Apollo and Athena and worn in wedding garlands, perhaps to symbolise eternal love.
