Our Ffern Artist for Spring 26 is Sophie Coryndon. Inspired by a wide array of traditional crafts and decorative techniques, Sophie’s often sculptural work illuminates the beauty of nature – and shines light on what we stand to lose.

For Spring 26, Sophie has created ‘The Illuminated Herbarium’, a shimmering tangle of spring wildflowers including Lady’s-smock, Vetch, Groundsel, Buttercup and Shepherds Purse. Each stem, petal and leaf is gilded with intricate needle-etched 23.5 ct gold, cut and pinned with meticulous precision onto textured paper. 

Our Ffern Artist for Winter 26 is abstract painter Helen Booth. Living in Wales, she draws inspiration from the rhythms and silences of the natural world. ‘The Lighthouse’ showcases Helen’s unique style - layers of neutral paint and dotted marks, the glowing beacon shining through winter mist.

Earlier this year, photographer Leia Morrison, Helen’s daughter, visited Helen at her studio - a former woollen mill nestled in rural west Wales, fifteen miles from the Ceredigion coast to talk about her work, her connection to nature, and the light that guides her practice.

Cory Feder is a Korean-American illustrator, animator, musician, dancer and sculptor based in New Mexico. Her multidisciplinary practice draws on the dialogue between her Korean and Jewish heritage, weaving together motifs, symbols and stories  from both traditions. Her work is shaped by a profound attentiveness to nature, ritual and mythology.

For our first year of Ffern candles, we invited Cory to create four seasonal enamelled artworks set into the lid of each candle - pieces inspired by folktales and symbolic imagery. She created Eostre and the Hare for Spring 25, Summer Knight for Summer 25, Tree of Life for Autumn 25, and Selkie for Winter 26.

Azzurra Galatolo is an Italian painter living in a small town in Tuscany, nestled between hills, sea, and lagoon. She takes inspiration from the natural beauty that surrounds her to create folk-inflected pieces in expressive watercolours.

For Autumn 25, Azzurra has created The Dance of Fruit, drawing upon time she spent in orchards as a child. Her painting captures the orchard as a shared world for both humans and wildlife. In an intriguing symmetrical composition, figures harvest apples from the trees and snakes coil between windfallen fruit.

Our Summer 25 artist is Fumi Imamura. Fumi uses collage and watercolour on translucent paper to create delicate floral works. Her crinkly, multi-layered pieces feature botanical motifs inspired by the landscape of her native Aichi in central Japan, and from Japanese folklore.

Fumi’s artwork for Summer 25 is called Momo, meaning ‘peach’ in Japanese. The branches of a tree intertwine with summer flowers, inspired by the marigold used in the fragrance. Strong roots reach down into the earth beneath.

Lizzie Riches is a portrait artist who grew up near the ancient oaks of Epping Forest, which gave her an enduring love for the natural world. Her other passion, for Elizabethan portraiture, began aged five when she visited Audley End House in East Anglia. 

Lizzie’s painting for Spring 25 is simply called ‘Violet’ - an enigmatic figure clothed in flowers, gazing out from amid springtime trees. The bird is a Jenny Wren and the butterfly a Meadow Brown. 

Emily Sutton is an artist and illustrator from the North Yorkshire countryside. Trained at the Edinburgh College of Art, she is celebrated for her intricate style and eye for compelling storytelling.

For Winter 25, Emily has brought our frozen forest landscape to life using watercolour, ink and cut paper. If you look closely, you can see the cut paper outline of the winter trees.

Florence Sweryda is an artist and maker from East Sussex. For Autumn 24, we approached Florence to create a tunnel book. Popular in the 18th century, a tunnel book is composed of a series of intricately cut-paper panels, layered one behind the other, creating a captivating illusion of depth and perspective.

For Autumn 24, Ffern Artist Jamie Beck has photographed a still life with Provençal quinces. This piece reflects her interest in the still lives of the Dutch Golden Age and their use of light and shadow.

Claire Basler is a French artist who specialises in painting flowers. After studying at the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-arts in the Seventies, Claire has spent the forty years since developing her captivating style. Delicately painted plants unfurl across dreamlike backdrops, the brushwork energetic and distinctive.

For Summer 24, Ffern has been lucky to work with Claire on two works, one on gold leaf for our seasonal poster and one on large-scale panels for Kent Wildflower Seeds' stand at the Chelsea Flower Show. 

Anna Higgie was born in Australia and trained at Sydney’s National Art School. Having studied Illustration in London, she now lives and works in Bristol. She combines traditional and digital methods to create her illustrations, which regularly feature in British Vogue.

For Spring 24, Anna created a contemporary still life featuring ingredients from the fragrance. Look out for rhubarb, ginger, and Ffern favourite bergamot.

Katy Papineau is a figurative painter who lives and works in London. A faculty member at The Royal Drawing School, her colourful painting, drawing and printmaking takes inspiration from folklore, literature and art history.

For Winter 24, Katy has created a self-portrait in response to the Louis MacNeice poem, ‘Snow’, that inspired the season’s fragrance.

Colette LaVette’s work is deeply informed by the natural world and mythology, taking a playful approach that engages with tradition through a contemporary painterly language - her organic forms emerge from expressionist mark making in compositions that recall Rococo and Renaissance masters.

For our Autumn 23 artwork, we wanted to immerse the viewer in our collaborator Julius Roberts’ world. Colette has created a painting alive with the characters we found on Julius’ farm - if you look closely you’ll spy his goats and his dog amid ingredients of the fragrance - carrots, irises, geranium, fig leaves, violet leaves and an apple tree...

Cici Lee was born in China but now lives in South Carolina, USA. Her work has been exhibited in major exhibitions in Xiamen and Beijing and she enjoys a global Instagram following.

In Chinese ink paintings, tradition attaches significance to particular flora and fauna, which when painted together should harmonise. Cici chose to depict the Red-billed Leiothrix bird alongside the osmanthus, as both represent loyalty and faithfulness.

The first two characters 癸卯 (gui mao) of the calligraphy indicate the lunar year 2023. The third 夏 (xia) and fourth 月 (yue) represent the summer season. The fifth 希希 (Xixi, the repetition indicated in the calligraphy by two dots), is the artist’s name in Chinese, which means hope. The final character 寫 (xie) references the style of painting. The red stamp is the traditional way of signing a Chinese painting.

Alex Merry is an artist and illustrator who lives in Stroud, in the western reaches of the Cotswolds. You may recognise Alex from previous Ffern projects - she is a dancer with Boss Morris, with whom we made a beautiful film to accompany our Autumn 22 fragrance, and makes folk beasts for their revels.

For Spring 23, Alex collaborated with Hanan Issa, Wales' National Poet, to create an artwork for our poster.

Hanan Issa is a Welsh-Iraqi poet, filmmaker and artist from Cardiff, who in 2022 was named the fifth National Poet of Wales. Hanan's poetry collection My Body Can House Two Hearts was published in 2019, and she has since contributed to Welsh (Plural): Essays on the Future of Wales and The Mab, a retelling of the Mabinogi stories for children. She co-founded the Cardiff open-mic night Where I’m Coming From and worked in the writers’ room for Channel 4’s We Are Lady Parts. Hanan was a member of the first cohort of writers who took part in Literature Wales’s Representing Wales programme in 2021.

For Spring 23, Hanan collaborated with illustrator Alex Merry to create an artwork for our poster.

Alice Boyd is a composer and sound artist based between London and Bristol whose work uses the voice, everyday sounds and electronic textures to tell stories about the world around us. Much of her work explores our relationship with the natural world. Each month, Alice travels to a new place in the UK to collect field recordings for Ffern’s podcast As The Season Turns. She has also recently released her debut EP From The Understory, created as part of her artist residency at the Eden Project - the world’s largest indoor rainforest.

For Spring 23, we invited Alice to write and record a song about spring - capturing that scarcely describable feeling that comes with the new shoots, the joy of things growing in response to the returning sun. Oh These Days has thus far been featured twice on BBC radio, most recently on BBC Introducing the West.

Helen Cann is an illustrator and artist based in Brighton. Her speciality is in mapmaking, but she also draws and paints. Her work can be seen regularly at exhibitions around the world and has often featured in films and on television, including His Dark Materials and Howard’s End. To accompany our Golden Tickets, Helen created two limited edition illustrations taking inspiration from the tradition of the embellished compass rose, one for the solstices and one for the equinoxes.

Petra Börner is an artist and illustrator from Skåne, Sweden. She has now lived in London for many years, where she studied fashion design at Central St Martins. Her practice centres on illustration but she also works in sculpture, particularly in clay. For Winter 23, we asked her to explore the myth of Holda, an ancient goddess of winter, through hand-cut paper.

Nneka Uzoigwe is a figurative artist who trained at the London Fine Art Studios. For Autumn 22, we asked Nneka to respond to the fragrance’s key ingredients - black tea, grapefruit, herbs. Her composition is detailed yet dreamy; on first glance seeming familiar, but becoming stranger the longer you look.

Giles Deacon is a British couture designer and illustrator whose theatrical designs combine a gothic sensibility with contemporary structures.Giles’ fashion is featured in the permanent collections at the V&A, London, and the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York; he has been awarded British Designer of the Year. 

For Summer 22, we worked with Giles to design a heraldic motif and series of illustrations that would respond to the season’s fragrance and its ingredients.


Lindsay Sekulowicz is an artist and researcher currently undertaking a PhD at The Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew. For Spring 22, we asked her to draw from specimens of the fragrance’s central notes, elderflower and gooseberry - for this, she visited Kew’s extensive Herbarium. The artworks she made there are filled with detail, true to life but with the distinctive, delicate style that makes Lindsay’s work so compelling.

Tom Stevenson is a plein air artist based in the South West. He works in oils and paints from life - landscapes, people, skies, the city, the sea. His paintings often stem from a compositional idea or a group of colours, creating a strong sense of place while skilfully walking the line between figurative and abstract.

For Winter 22, we asked him to return to Lyme Regis and the Jurassic Coast, where he often works, to make a winter seascape centred around the iconic Cobb.

To celebrate Samhain we filmed Boss Morris, an all-female morris group, dancing at dusk and into the night on a beacon in the Cotswolds.

Phoebe Cummings works with raw clay to produce ephemeral pieces that reflect the passage of time.

For Autumn 21, we asked her to respond to the same place that inspired this fragrance - Ruan Lanihorne, Cornwall. Phoebe's sculpture echoes the abundant water that runs through this landscape, its mutability embracing the seasonal changes that inform Ffern fragrance making.

"To accompany our Autumn 21 film, ‘The Road to Ruan Lanihorne’, Ffern commissioned the cellist and composer George Lloyd-Owen to create an original score. Centring around improvised cello refrains, George’s work incorporates organic sounds and reaches for a meditative tone - the perfect accompaniment to our slow footage along the lanes to Ruan Lanihorne, Cornwall, the place that inspired our Autumn 21 fragrance.

To mark the summer solstice and the launch of our latest release, we commissioned the visual artist Nicola Yeoman to create a sculpture from natural materials. The result is an 8 foot high wooden structure, crowned with an orb made from hay - an ingredient we have used in Summer 21 for the first time.

Into the hay, Nicola wove ribbons, flowers and feathers. On a summer evening in early June we set it alight. This short film captures the making and the burning.

As part of the Ffern Artists series, we have worked with the natural-dye artist Daisy Gray to create a limited run of silk handkerchiefs. The handkerchiefs are handwoven from ethical silk by a co-operative of artisans in West Bengal, India and hand-dyed by Daisy using walnut leaves, madder root and goldenrod.Daisy has chosen these colours as a reflection of an English greenhouse - the inspiration behind Spring 21.

The painter Will Calver is the second in our series. In response to Winter 21, Will painted a still life in oils, depicting a branch of silver birch and a Sicilian lemon. Both these ingredients play a key role in the fragrance, which was inspired by the unique quality of the air in the Scottish Highlands.

To begin our artist series, we asked Lauren Emily Wilson to respond to Autumn 20. The result is an ethereal family of pastel drawings that capture the evolution of a scent.
