The name kumquat comes from a Cantonese word that means golden tangerine - and as this suggests the first reference to these powerful little fruits is from 12th-century China. The kumquat is tangy and sour with a sweet undertone, its strong flavour more than making up for its small size. It is an increasingly popular fragrance ingredient, its deep and delightful scent profile more complex than orange or lemon. Our kumquats are grown in Brazil, where the rind is cold-pressed while fresh.
