Valerian root

Valerian, known in medieval times as ‘All Heal’, is a flowering herb long cultivated for its medicinal properties. First recorded by Hippocrates, who prescribed it to cure ailments like insomnia and anxiety, its name derived from the Latin valere, ‘to be in good health’.

Our valerian essential oil is extracted from the plant’s root, which is carefully dried, crushed and steam distilled. On its own, its scent is powerful and assertive, and is therefore rarely used in perfumery. Our nose, Elodie, uses the oil with careful restraint - it brings a distinctive herbaceous, earthy and woody depth to a composition, making the wearer feel grounded and connected to nature.
