Our Ffern Artist for Summer 26 is Laurie Kaplowitz. Based in Boston, she places human figures amid nature to explore themes of existence and adornment.

For Summer 26, we have designed a citrus-floral fragrance, with cooling bergamot, sweet clementine and peach rose. Threaded by vines of basil, galbanum and blackcurrant bud.

From narcissus, a landscape

Fresh, green and lightly floral, Spring 23 is our first fragrance to use narcissus. The fragrance recalls the green shoots of the bulbs, their pale flowers just opening to reveal a bright heart.

Alex Merry is an artist, illustrator and founding member of Boss Morris who lives in Stroud, in the western reaches of the Cotswolds. For Spring 23, Alex collaborated with Hanan Issa, Wales’ National Poet, to create our seasonal artwork.

Alex Merry is an artist and illustrator who lives in Stroud, in the western reaches of the Cotswolds. You may recognise Alex from previous Ffern projects - she is a dancer with Boss Morris, with whom we made a beautiful film to accompany our Autumn 22 fragrance, and makes folk beasts for their revels.

For Spring 23, Alex collaborated with Hanan Issa, Wales' National Poet, to create an artwork for our poster.

Hanan Issa is a Welsh-Iraqi poet, filmmaker and artist from Cardiff, who in 2022 was named the fifth National Poet of Wales. She is a Ffern Artist for the Spring 23 Season.

Hanan Issa is a Welsh-Iraqi poet, filmmaker and artist from Cardiff, who in 2022 was named the fifth National Poet of Wales. Hanan's poetry collection My Body Can House Two Hearts was published in 2019, and she has since contributed to Welsh (Plural): Essays on the Future of Wales and The Mab, a retelling of the Mabinogi stories for children. She co-founded the Cardiff open-mic night Where I’m Coming From and worked in the writers’ room for Channel 4’s We Are Lady Parts. Hanan was a member of the first cohort of writers who took part in Literature Wales’s Representing Wales programme in 2021.

For Spring 23, Hanan collaborated with illustrator Alex Merry to create an artwork for our poster.

Alice Boyd is a sound artist who uses the voice, everyday sounds and electronic textures to tell stories about the world around us. She is a Ffern Artist for the Spring 23 Season.

Alice Boyd

Alice Boyd is a composer and sound artist based between London and Bristol whose work uses the voice, everyday sounds and electronic textures to tell stories about the world around us. Much of her work explores our relationship with the natural world. Each month, Alice travels to a new place in the UK to collect field recordings for Ffern’s podcast As The Season Turns. She has also recently released her debut EP From The Understory, created as part of her artist residency at the Eden Project - the world’s largest indoor rainforest.

For Spring 23, we invited Alice to write and record a song about spring - capturing that scarcely describable feeling that comes with the new shoots, the joy of things growing in response to the returning sun. Oh These Days has thus far been featured twice on BBC radio, most recently on BBC Introducing the West.
