Our cedar leaf essential oil comes from the eastern white cedar tree, Thuja occidentalis. Despite its name, it isn’t a true cedar: botanically, the species belongs to the cypress family, rather than the genus Cedrus. The tree is a hardy evergreen conifer native to Quebec, where it thrives amid wetlands, rocky ridges and cold northern forests.
In perfumery, cedar leaf is both agrestic and terpenic - like a pine needle crushed between fingers, its scent is wild, raw and forest-like, with an untamed quality.
