Galbanum is a fragrant gum resin obtained from the root of the Ferula gummosa plant. The roots are hand-scored with a traditional wrought iron galbanum tool, yielding resin which hardens into small droplets to be collected and transformed into an essential oil.

Growing in the wild, arid mountains of Eastern Anatolia, Turkey, the roots are first hand-scored with a traditional wrought iron galbanum tool. The score fills with resin over a three day period, dries into small droplets, and only then is harvested before being transformed into an essential oil through steam distillation. 

The Romans recognised galbanum’s many uses in perfumery, referring to it as ‘green gold’ for its cut-stem and crushed leaf facets. It is an ingredient that is both grounding and uplifting - a material with the rare ability to anchor a composition while elevating the notes around it.

We chose Haitian vetiver over Javan competitors for its fresh, sparkling notes, and because the root provides sustainable employment for south Haitian communities. One year after planting, the roots are excavated, washed, cut, and sun-dried before they can be steam distilled at source.

Ffern’s pink peppercorn oil is extracted from plants grown on the volcanic Réunion Island, 680km east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. Our 100% pure oil is extracted with the CO2 extraction process. 

Pink pepper is not, in fact, a member of the pepper family. Pink peppercorns do, however, resemble real peppercorns in flavour and appearance - hence the name. We extract Ffern pink peppercorn oil from plants grown on the volcanic Réunion Island, 680km east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. Ffern petitgrain is harvested in Paraguay from a hybrid tree - a cross between a sweet *Citrus x sinensis* and a bitter *Citrus x aurantium*. Grown by a network of family farmers, the tree’s leaves and branches are cut and immediately distilled in hand built, clay sealed wooden distilleries.

Clary sage is an excellent source of nectar for bees and other pollinators. Native to the Mediterranean, it grows wild in France, Russia and Hungary and can be used in cooking much in the same way as the more familiar _Salvia officinalis_, or common sage.

Sometimes known as muscatel oil, clary sage oil is used often in aromatherapies for its cooling, calming properties and as an antiseptic - it was used to treat sweating in tuberculosis and has a long history of association with women's medicines. The oil is pale and thin, herbaceous and slightly floral with a surprising, pleasant earthiness.
